 Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the Wonderbag work?
The Wonderbag is a non-electric slow cooker that uses heat-retention technology to continue cooking food once your pan has been removed from the heat source. To cook, simply bring the food to the boil on a stove, let it simmer, and then put the pot into the Wonderbag. Cinch the Wonderbag tightly with the drawstring, and allow the food to slow cook to perfection for up to 8 hours. It works by retaining the heat within the pan, and maintaining this heat for several hours, helping to continue cooking the food without additional energy.
  • What type of pans can be used in the Wonderbag?
This is a popular question! We recommend copper, steel, aluminum, enameled cast iron, cast iron and glassware pots. If you have any doubts, feel free to email us: contact@wonderbagworld.com.
  • Why is the Wonderbag not puffing up once it's removed from the packaging?
We aim to transfer the Wonderbag around the world as sustainably as possible by reducing the packaging size. This is achieved by shrink wrapping the Wonderbag, which means the item needs puffing up when it arrives to you. Once you open the packaging for the first time, try moving the foam around and get air into the Wonderbag to puff it up to the correct size. If you find it still isn't puffing up, try placing it in a tumble dryer for a couple of minutes, this normally does the job!
  • How long does food stay warm in a Wonderbag ?
The Wonderbag can continue cooking food for up to eight hours, and keep your food warm for several hours after this. It is important to boil your food before placing in the Wonderbag and transfer it to the Wonderbag as quickly as possible once removed from the hob. This helps to ensure the temperature of the food is as hot as possible from the beginning of the Wonderbag cooking process, thereby helping it to retain the heat for longer.
  • What is the lifespan of a Wonderbag?
The lifespan of a Wonderbag is dependent on how much it is used and how well it is looked after. We started selling Wonderbags in 2008 and some of these are still going strong, that’s nearly 15 years!
  • What size pan fits the Wonderbag?
We have three different Wonderbag sizes: Small – suitable for pans up to 2 litres, and is ideal for serving 1 or 2 people Medium – suitable for pans between 2-6 litres, and is ideal for cooking up to six portions Large – suitable for pans between 6 -10 litres, and is ideal for large families or batch cooking
  • What size is best for the Wonderbag?
This is subjective and depends on your pan size and cooking requirements, so please check our sizing recommendations within this FAQ for guidance. If you have doubts, we usually recommend going with a larger bag as this allows you to use bigger pans in the future, and allows you to tighten the bag and add additional towels to fill your Wonderbag if your pan is on the smaller size.
  • What should I do if my Wonderbag is damaged?
All Wonderbags are quality checked before leaving the warehouse, however if you find that your bag is faulty, please send an email to contact@wonderbagworld.com and we will do our best to help you.
  • What is the Wonderbag made from?
We use polyester fabric for the exterior, and re-purposed foam insulation for the interior, helping to divert a large quantity of material from landfill each year.
  • What are the maximum dimensions of the pans that can fit in a Wonderbag?
Small – suitable for pans up to 2 litres Medium – suitable for pans between 2-6 litres Large – suitable for pans between 6 -10 litres
  • Am I using it correctly?
Using a Wonderbag is a new concept for most people, and as a result it often requires some trial and error - which can be part of the fun! As the Wonderbag does not add additional heat to your food, make sure you get your food to a hot temperature before placing it into the Wonderbag. You can do this by boiling your food to begin with and transfer your pan to the Wonderbag as quickly as possible once removed from the heat source. If cooking meat, start with smaller pieces and work your way up to bigger pieces once you have a good feel for the Wonderbag. • Does Wonderbag donate a bag for each one sold?
Years back we had a 'buy one give one' model, however we have since moved away from this and instead use a portion of our profits to help subsidize bags for lower income families. As an example, many organizations in the UK reach out to us asking for subsidized bags for families who may be struggling with the cost of living crisis. By selling Wonderbags at full price, it then allows us to offer the bags at near cost price to such organizations. An additional example is our donation to Ukrainian soldiers fighting on the frontline, cooking with limited gas and electric. Without the support of our community buying the Wonderbag at full price, we wouldn't be able to support such donations.
